Deep Crate Mod

Here are three criminally under-praised Mod bands, the kind only scooter nerds and record-fair diggers argue about:

1. The Action (UK)

They’re the heartbreak story of the Mod scene. Impeccably dressed, absurdly tight live band, and totally adored by London Mods—but their best stuff never even got a proper release at the time.

Think soul-heavy Mod with Small Faces energy, plus killer harmonies. If they’d had better management, they’d be household names.

Why they deserved more love:

They were too good and too early. Also, their label basically fumbled the bag.

2. The Creation (UK)

Most people only know “Making Time”—but the band was way more adventurous than their one famous track suggests.

They blended Mod sharpness with proto-psychedelia before it was cool, and had a seriously stylish edge.

Why they deserved more love:

They were caught between scenes—too weird for pure Mod purists, too Mod for the psych crowd.

3. The Eyes (UK)

Snarling vocals, aggressive guitar, and zero patience for politeness. These guys were angrier than most Mod bands, almost punk years before punk existed.

If you like your Mod sharp, bitter, and ready to fight someone in a Chelsea boot, this is it.

Why they deserved more love:

They scared the mainstream. Also, British radio wasn’t ready for that much attitude in a tailored suit.
