The historic 47th CineFestival San Antonio, hosted by the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center from July 9–12, 2026, takes center stage at the Carver Community Cultural Center to celebrate the rich tapestry of Chicanx, Latinx, and Indigenous storytelling. As the nation’s longest-running Latino film festival, this four-day cinematic gathering spotlights a dynamic lineup of award-winning documentaries, music-driven narratives, and regional showcases. Opening night kicks off with the San Antonio premiere of MEXICANAMERICAN, a Tribeca Film Festival Audience Award-winning documentary by up-and-coming director Eddie Sanchez that weaves present-day interviews with nostalgic VHS home videos exchanged across the border.
The festival draws to a powerful close on July 12th with the 2026 Sundance Audience Award winner, American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez. Directed by Texas native David Alvarado, the documentary honors the life, activism, and monumental career of playwright and filmmaker Luis Valdez, the Chicano arts pioneer behind Zoot Suit and La Bamba.

Follows the decades of music and community activism spearheaded by the Grammy Award-winning Chicano rock band Quetzal.
Los Tejanos:
A 500-Year History: A comprehensive cultural deep dive chronicling the deep-seated history and foundational contributions of Tejano communities in South Texas.
Soul Searchin’:
Drifts into the distinct subculture of Black and Chicano soul vinyl record collectors and passionate crate diggers.
Who’s the Real Spanish Fly?:
Delves into the distinct roots and historical impact of Latin Freestyle and hip-hop culture across the Lone Star State.
Fleeting Spaces, Futile Lines:
An experimental tone poem by Ángela García that captures the raw imagery of the Rio Grande Valley and border fencing, set to a reading of Robert Frost’s "Mending Wall".
Homegrown Talent & Texas Spotlights
Beyond retrospective features, CineFestival places immense focus on native Texans through its highly anticipated Mesquite Awards competition and regional showcases. The Vistas de San Antonio program is slated to feature a record-breaking selection of 22 local short films alongside the local feature Back on Road, directed by David Johnathan Pequeno. Visionary hometown stories featured in the shorts lineup include Stevie Diaz's sci-fi haunted house tale NaC, Noelia Patino-Lara's dreamscape exploration Reality Check, and Enrique José's psychological look at guilt and second chances, Resurrection at 3:33am. By offering more than half of its screenings completely free to the public, the 47th edition continues its decades-long mission of ensuring authentic independent cinema remains accessible to the community that inspired it.
