Hip Hop was born at a birthday party in the Bronx. 1973, yes over 50 years ago!, Clive Campbell (DJ Kool Herc) became the founding father of hip hop. It was at his sister's party on Aug. 11th, that Kool Herc performed and demonstrated a style of music that he had been perfecting for about a year. - read more at History.com.

In 1979, The SugarHill Gang, used the words Hip Hop, in the rap song, Rapper's Delight. - read the Lyrics 

In September 1982, Steven Hager, made a piece for the Village Voice where he presented his interview with Afrika Bambaataa.  Bam described the weird art and peace movement that he and his Zulu Nation were doing out in the Bronx, and he called it Hip-hop.  Where did he get those words from? - read the whole history.

The scene that Cool Herc had created mixed with the philosophies of Bambaataa started a movement.
