WHERE CLIQUES,
OLD AND NEW,
COME TOGETHER IN HARMONY

With Knowledge Comes Tolerance

In general, HARDCORE music: music that is experimental in nature and typically characterized by high volume and aggressive presentation.  Any type of music can be made into a hardcore version of itself.  However, this page is dedicated to the HARDCORE PUNK clique.

Although a hardened version of Punk Rock, Hardcore took on a completely new persona of it's own and became it's own subculture.

Punk Rock took a turn with punks trying to get as far away from the Hippies as possible by making their already edgy punk rock, harder and more aggressive.  Thus HARDCORE PUNK ROCK was born out of SoCal in 1980 with bands like Black Flag and Circle Jerks.  It spread like wild fire across the country where Washington D.C. bands like Minor Threat and Bad Brains carried it up to New York and over to Boston - all within a year.

The scene is still very much alive with Hardcore parents passing it on to their children and new bands forming all the time, but the heyday seemed to be over in the early 2000s.

Disclaimer: We, as humans, like to define things. On these pages, definitions may vary from region to region, but Hella Cliques, through intense research, has tried to bring you the rawest history of each clique. DON'T BE A POSER!
