Burning Man Tickets: The World’s Most Expensive Dust Pass

Every year, as surely as the desert sun rises over a neon-drenched mutant vehicle, tens of thousands of hopefuls ask the same question: “When do Burning Man tickets go on sale?” It’s the most-Googled phrase about the event, because apparently stepping into a temporary city of art, fire, and half-naked people on stilts now requires the planning skills of a military operation.

Tickets, once a humble exchange of cash for chaos, have evolved into a cryptic Hunger Games–style lottery. You’ll need an account, a pre-registration code, the reflexes of a caffeinated meerkat, and a small offering to the tech gods. And that’s just for the chance to spend hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on a ticket that grants you permission to get coated in dust and dehydrated while watching someone in a tutu weld a giant octopus.

Sure, the principles are radical self-reliance and inclusion. But you’d better have Wi-Fi, a credit card limit, and a backup plan involving a friend named “Sunbeam” who knows a guy.

In the end, the true Burning Man experience starts not on the playa—but in your browser, at 11:59 a.m., with sweaty palms and a dream.

You see, in most years, especially before 2023, tickets sold out very quickly, often within minutes of a sale opening. There has historically been far more demand than there are available tickets.

The situation became less competitive in 2023 and 2024. Due to factors like bad weather in previous years, a decline in attendance, and economic concerns, tickets didn't sell out as quickly, and in some cases, were even available at face value or below on resale markets close to the event.

For 2025, Burning Man has implemented a tiered pricing system with tickets ranging from $550 to $3,000. The lower-priced tickets are expected to sell out very fast, while the more expensive tiers are a way for the organization to generate revenue and subsidize the lower-cost tickets.

The organization runs a tiered system of multiple sales, including a "Today Sale," "Tomorrow Sale," and a last-minute "OMG Sale," each with various price points ranging from a subsidized $550 to a premium of $3,000. These higher-priced tickets help fund the event's infrastructure and provide for programs like Ticket Aid. For those who miss out, the official Secure Ticket Exchange Program (STEP) offers a safe way to buy and sell tickets at face value.

Good Luck.
