STRAIGHT EDGE is a child of HARDCORE PUNK. Hardcore band, Minor Threat's song "Straightedge" is coined as having named the movement. Fed up with the drug usage of the punk scene, but still very in love with the original ideologies of individualism and live-for-the-moment, straightedge bands continued to play alongside punk bands until the mid-80s.
The band Youth of Today, also introduced vegetarianism to the straightedge culture.
