The ProVelo Super League: Lycra, Lactic Acid, and Lessons in Lap-Counting

If you’ve ever looked at a professional cyclist and thought, “I love the sport, but I wish the season started with more adrenaline and fewer long-winded speeches,” then the ProVelo Super League (PSL) is your new hyper-caffeinated best friend.

The PSL is Australia’s high-stakes, 10-week summer blockbuster, designed to turn road cycling into a spectator-friendly frenzy. The 2026 calendar, revealed back in October, promises six rounds across five states. It’s marketed as the "Road to the WorldTour," which is cycling-speak for "if you ride fast enough here, you might eventually get to lose to Tadej Pogačar in France."

While the 2026 season officially kicks off on January 24th with "SA Kick It" in Adelaide, the hype is already reaching a fever pitch. We are currently in that awkward pre-race week where riders are obsessively polishing their gears and fans are placing bets on who will be the first to pull a "Keely Bennett." (For the uninitiated, that’s when you celebrate a glorious victory only to realize there’s still a full lap of suffering left to go).

With legendary slogs like the Melbourne to Warrnambool and the Grafton to Inverell on the horizon and the introduction of U17 categories, the PSL is evolving. It’s less of a league and more of a survival experiment. It’s fast, it’s sweaty, and it’s the only place where "SA Kick It" is an actual race name and not just what you do to your bike when you get a flat tire.
