Who made the first surfboard? Probably some Polynesian dude or dudette.
When did surfing make it to North America? According to surf historians Kim Stoner and Geoff Dunn, three Hawaiians surfed the mouth of the San Lorenzo River in Santa Cruz, CA in 1885. In 1909, surfing reached the east coast when Burke Haywood Bridgers and a group of surfers tried unsuccessfully to surf on boards made of Juniper in Wrightsville Beach, NC.
