MANGA
With Knowledge Comes Tolerance

MANGA is a style of Japanese comic book - it is important to understand that manga only refers to comic books, drawings, and related art, not animation.  Although MANGA has had a long history in Japan, the term came into usage in the late 1700s. The genre of comic book that we know today as MANGA was perfected after WWII as Japan rebuilt itself.  MANGA is usually printed in black and white.  Only a small amount of MANGA is adapted into anime.

In Japan, MANGA is read by all generations.  A good portion of MANGA is self-published which in Japan is called Dōjinshi.  Dōjinshi is a category of Dōjin, a whole community of artists that consists of both amateur and professionals.

So although lovers of MANGA call themselves fan community or Otaku, and Hella Cliques has separate pages for each of these cliques (learn why they are different) - MANGA is an individual subculture with artists of the Dōjinshi holding regular conventions.  So this page is dedicated to those who produce their own MANGA.

Disclaimer: We, as humans, like to define things. On these pages, definitions may vary from region to region, but Hella Cliques, through intense research, has tried to bring you the rawest history of each clique. DON'T BE A POSER!
