THE OFFICIAL HELLA CLIQUES HISTORY OF CGBG
READ IT!
THE START: Opened in 1973 by Hilly Kristal. Located in Manhattan's East Village - 315 Bowery
THE HISTORY: The full name is CBGB & OMFUG which stands for Country, BlueGrass, Blues & Other Music For Uplifting Gormandizers (from gormandizer - having a voracious appetite... for music). However, Kristal, compromising his initial vision started booking the local rock bands and forever changed music history. The club became the forefront of the hardcore punk scene.
THE END: After a messy lease problem, CBGB closed it's doors forever on October 15, 2006. Patti Smith, one of the club's original acts, was the last show.
THE AFTERLIFE: While Kristal really is in the afterlife... He passed away in 2007 from lung cancer... CBGB Radio was launched in 2010 and CBGB Music Festival began in 2012.
